Xavier Mont'ra Chew

With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Xavier Mont'ra Chew, who entered the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 4, 2026, at the age of ten.

Born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, Xavier was a bright light to everyone who knew him. His contagious smile, joyful spirit, and loving heart made strangers into friends and friends into family. He attended Creswell Elementary School, where he was deeply loved by his teachers, classmates, and school family.

Xavier loved superheroes—especially Spider-Man—along with Sonic the Hedgehog, playing his PlayStation, and making memories with family and friends, especially his best friend and nephew, Kennis "Dooda" Holland, Jr. He also loved worship music and could often be found singing alongside his dear friend, Hayden.

After an unexpected accident in October 2024, Xavier was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. Though his journey brought surgeries, treatments, and incredible challenges, cancer never defined him. His courage, joy, and unwavering faith did. Throughout his fight, Xavier was surrounded by an extraordinary team of doctors, nurses, therapists, and caregivers who became much more than his medical team—they became family. Their compassion, dedication, and love carried him and his family through countless difficult days. Even in his hardest moments, Xavier's greatest concern was making sure his mom and dad were okay. His selfless love touched everyone around him.

God graciously filled Xavier's journey with unforgettable moments of joy. He experienced the magic of Disney World and enjoyed a special "YES Day" filled with all of his favorite things—Johnny's Pizza, IHOP, Golden Corral, Dunkin', swimming, a boat ride, racing go-karts, and arcade games—creating memories his family will treasure forever. Xavier was also deeply loved by Calvary Baptist Academy, who hosted a special pep rally in his honor to cheer him on in his fight. The gym echoed with encouragement as the cheerleaders celebrated him, and the basketball team presented him with a trophy, reminding Xavier that he had an entire community standing beside him every step of the way. These moments were beautiful reminders that joy, hope, and love can flourish even in life's hardest seasons.

On April 26, 2026, Xavier gave his life to Jesus Christ and was baptized alongside his father, Cleotha Chew, Jr., at Calvary Baptist Church. It was one of the greatest moments of his life and the beginning of the eternal hope his family now holds onto.

Today, Xavier is completely healed, running freely in the presence of Jesus with a perfect body and endless joy.

He leaves behind his loving father, Cleotha Chew, Jr.; mother, Leketria West; devoted caretaker, Nickie Marsten; sister, Dominique Chew; brother, Diamond Chew; sister, Tiffany Beard; god-brother, Andrew O'Kray; grandmother, Joyce Chew; grandparents, Eric Mayshack, Sr. and Loretta West; niece, De'Myah Jackson; nephews, De'Mychal Jackson and Kennis "Dooda" Holland, Jr.; great-niece, De'Nylah Jackson; and countless family members, friends, teachers, caregivers, and a church community who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Hope Williams, and grandfather, Cleotha Chew, Sr.

Xavier admired Spider-Man because he fought to protect others. Through his own life, Xavier became a hero himself. He showed us that true strength is found in faith, true courage is choosing joy in the face of suffering, and true victory belongs to those who trust in Jesus Christ.

Our little superhero has laid down his cape and received something far greater—a crown of life.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7
