Obituary

William "Bil" Estes Smith was born August 1, 1937, to Isham Estes Smith and Eunice Mae Hanson Smith.  He went home to Jesus on May 11, 2025.  He went peacefully with family at his side.  The family will have a celebration of his life on May 20, 2025, at ten o'clock a.m. at Aulds funeral home.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Isham Brewster Smith, his infant son Jefferson Smith, and his beloved wife of sixty-four years, Jennie "Ginger" Virginia Rainey Smith.  He will be forever remembered and loved by his surviving children, Steven Smith of Mooringsport, LA and his wife Debbie, Donald Smith of Shreveport LA, and Tracy Jewell of Shreveport and her husband, Chris.  Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren Rion and Melissa Smith, Jessica and Renato Xavier Marcelo, Conner Jewell, David Lane, Kevin and Amber James, Natalie Moreira and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The legacy left behind of this quiet, humble man is immeasurable.  The outside world got but a glimpse of the person he truly was.  A silent strength and an indomitable spirit, he was able to meet any challenge, face any fear.  He was the bedrock of his family.  A jokester, he loved word games, playing with the English language.  He even invented his own!  Bil was also a man of music, he played guitar skillfully and loved to listen to any type of music that moved his spirit.  He was a gardener, an engineer, a visionary, and an old-fashioned man's man.  His handshake was as good as a contract in his business and his word was law to his children.

But the most significant, joyous and eventually poignant thing to Bil was his life with, and loss of, his wife Ginger.  Their love story spanned over 6 decades and shaped him into who he was.  He never stopped grieving her loss and now he is finally home with his Savior and his beloved.  The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the dementia, Alzheimer's, or cancer charity of the donators choice.
