Obituary

On July 5, 1934, at 5:00 a.m. Mr. & Mrs. W.M. Chaves welcomed into the world their first son, William Mortmous Chaves, Jr. in Ma Rouge, L.A., his brother, and sister were soon to follow.  The family moved to Castor LA. where Bill attended school until the 8 th grade.  On October 25 th , 1951, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corp. He attended boot camp in San Diego CA. He was then sent to Honolulu Hawaii for the remainder of his military career where he was a Proof Director for small arms and ammo during the Korean War. He received the National Defense Service Ribbon.  Bill was discharged to Louisiana. He soon struck out for Texas where he married, and his children were born. Bill always liked to do things his way. He had several different occupations until he found the one, he loved, being his own BOSS. He owned a restaurant, a bar, a roofing company and even a racehorse that won first place.  Upon retirement in 2000 he was the owner operator of Blue Bird Trucking. He quickly realized retirement was not for him and started selling sweet potatoes and other produce and was given the name "Tater Man".  Bill loved fishing, hunting, the outdoors, and he loved being around people. He truly was a one-of-a-kind man. On April 16, 2023, Bill "Tater Man" Chaves departed this world to receive his reward. Left to remember him are his brother, Charles E. Chaves of Livingston AL. his sister, Mary A. Hobbs of Springhills, FL. his daughter, Cynthia Davis and husband Tony of Kaufman, TX. his son Charles Chaves and wife Willena of Dallas, TX. his daughter, Carron Bobien and husband Walt of Arlington TX. his 2 granddaughters, Margarett and Shelbi and her husband Parker and his grandson Jakob. As well as his great grandson Graham and great granddaughter Ivy. Along with many nieces and nephews friends.  He was loved and will be missed.
