Obituary

William Joseph Lee, better known as Billy, ended his journey on earth on November 29, 2022. Billy Lee was born in Shreveport, LA on August 8, 1936 to Sam and Frankie Lee. He enjoyed his entire life in Shreveport. After graduating from Fair Park High School, he joined the United States Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California. At the conclusion of his military service, he came back to Shreveport and founded Lee's Transmission Service, which he owned and operated for the rest of his life. He was a genius when it came to mechanics and if he did not know how to fix something there was no limit to the amount of time or effort that he would put into figuring it out. The word "retirement" was never in his vocabulary and neither was the phrase "quitting time." There was no such thing as a 40 hour work week. His repair shop was his life and he loved being there. For relaxation, he would go home, get on his tractor and bushhog his property or operate his backhoe. He also loved his friends and helping people out, whether it was through fixing something for them or just giving advice. His greatest passion other than his business was racing - and winning. It delighted him to build racing engines and cars. Whether it be motorcycles, sprint cars or go-karts, his drive was to see his handiwork achieve victory. He never went to a racetrack to just compete and watch his cars go around the track, he was there to win. He always said "If I don't think I can win, then I'm not wasting my time." Billy was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Frankie Lee, and his youngest brother Tommy Lee. He is survived by, and will be lovingly remembered by, his sons and their wives - Buddy and Lisa Lee and John and Mary Lee and grandchildren Ryan and Patrick Lee. He is also survived by his brother Leslie Lee and many nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service at Aulds Funeral Home, 7849 East Kings Highway, Shreveport, LA at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, December 21, 2022. Honorary Pallbearers will be Billy Powell, TJ Causey, George Thomas, Ronnie Mulford, Brad Bozeman, Joey Raborn, and Randy Shouse. The family wishes to thank all of Billy's caregivers this past year and a special thanks to Jay Williams and Chris Bihm and all of the wonderful, caring staff at The Guest House Skilled Nursing Facility in Shreveport.
