Thomas J. Sowell, Jr., 84, of Shreveport, La, passed away peacefully in his sleep May 27, 2020, with Leah, his wife of over 64 years by his side. He was born February 19, 1936, to Thomas John Sowell, Sr. and Dorothy Farmer Sowell of Turner Falls, Massachusetts.

While serving as a military policeman at Barksdale Air Force Base, Tom married Leah V. Kanapkey November 7, 1955.  He was in sales most of his adult life.  Tom never minded getting his hands dirty.  He loved being Mr. Fix-it and was famous for his duct tape.  After retiring from sales, he worked as a volunteer at Overton Brooks Veterans Hospital for many years until his health began to fail.

Tom was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather. He loved spending quality time with his loved ones and was willing to help out anyone in need. A true blessing, Tom touched the hearts of all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Margaret Sowell Bourbeau. He is survived by his son, Kevin Thomas Sowell and wife Renee, of Shreveport, his daughter Monica Lynn Sowell Dancy and husband Richard, of Stonewall, and his daughter Terri Lea Sowell Mercer and husband Speedy, of Shreveport.

His grandchildren are Heather Dancy Fatherree and husband Lee, of Shreveport, Geoffrey Thomas Dancy and wife Menaka, of New Orleans, Lauren Sowell Christy and husband Justin, of Holly Springs, North Carolina, and Kara Sowell Guidice and husband Drew, of Thomasville, Georgia.

Tom also had a special affection for his five great-grandchildren, Gracie Fatherree, Alex "AC" Fatherree, Luke Christy, Grayson Christy and Jai Dancy.

Graveside services are being planned at St. Ann's Catholic Church at a date still being determined.
