Seventy five years ago in Pala, Kerala, India, Theresiamma Varghese, a remarkable woman was born into the loving home of Annamma Joseph and Joseph MP. She was from a large family of six brothers and five sisters who she loved dearly. Theresiamma never met a stranger, and treated all with love and compassion. When anyone needed prayers she stormed heaven with her prayers and devotion.
Her calm presence spread over all who knew her.
As a young woman she followed a path of healing by studying and becoming a wonderful nurse. She then immigrated to Seychelles with her young daughter. After ten years and an arduous immigration process Theresa and Grace came to United States where her husband resided and worked. Once again she faced all the challenges of an immigrant, and with her faith, her belief that love is the most important thing in life, and her tenacity she made a new start.
Moving to Shreveport in 2009, Theresa once again created a community for herself through her vocation as a nurse and a woman of faith. Theresa continued to work in Labour and Delivery as a brilliant nurse and retired after 50 years of delivering babies, helping new mothers learn to breast feed, and even to crochet for their babies. St. Mary's and indeed Christus, and the Willis Knighton hospital systems were greatly enhanced by her hard work, dedication, and faith.
As a mother she was the most loving and absolute best. She taught her daughter compassion, and to always empathize and see the others' perspective no matter their actions. She was a woman who moved to multiple different countries; learned multiple new languages; worked multiple shifts; and then came home to care for her daughter. She also took care of her husband who is suffering with Parkinson.
In 2019 a blow was dealt with a cancer diagnosis that would change all that she had anticipated after retirement. In the same way she approached everything else she squared her shoulders, made her prayers, and cloaked herself in faith and she fought. She fought for five years, until on October 6th, God took her from the battlefield to paradise. She faced all her challenges joyfully, and with so much faith. You have all met Theresa, and felt her beautiful soul, and her kind smile.
We shall never forget her; for she rests now in our hearts, our minds, and our thoughts. She has given all who knew her an example of what we can be through faith. A worthy woman, who can find one; her price is far beyond rubies. She is survived by her husband, GeAbraham, her daughter Grace, and son-in-law, Mervin Michael.
