Stephen Richard Sasser

With profound sadness, yet grateful hearts for a life so well lived, we announce the passing of Stephen Richard Sasser, who entered into eternal rest on June 25, 2026, one day after celebrating his 71st birthday. After a long and courageous battle with cancer and kidney failure, Steve passed away peacefully at his beloved home overlooking Cedar Creek Lake in Mabank, Texas, surrounded by the place he loved most.

Steve was born on June 24, 1955, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to the late M.L. "Rusty" Sasser and Constance (Tuminello) Sasser. From an early age, he developed a remarkable work ethic, an inquisitive mind, and a willingness to help anyone in need—qualities that would define the man he became.

To know Steve was to know genuine kindness. He was humble, gentle, laid-back, sincere, wise, and possessed a quiet strength that brought comfort to those around him. He never sought recognition, yet he earned the admiration and respect of everyone fortunate enough to know him. Steve had an incredible ability to fix just about anything. Whether it was a vehicle, an appliance, or a project that others had long since given up on, he approached every challenge with patience, determination, and skill. Family and friends knew that if Steve couldn't fix it, no one could.

He found his greatest joy in life's simple pleasures. Whether casting a fishing line into the water, heading out on a mud-riding adventure, or simply sitting by the lake enjoying God's creation, Steve was happiest outdoors. His easy smile, quick wit, and wonderful sense of humor made every gathering a little brighter, and his quiet wisdom often provided exactly the right words when they were needed most.

Steve's kindness extended far beyond his own family. He was the kind of neighbor everyone hopes to have—the first to lend a helping hand, offer advice, or simply stop by for a friendly conversation. His neighbor and dear friend of more than thirty years, Kay Bittle, would tell anyone that Steve was truly the very best neighbor anyone could ever ask for.

Above all else, Steve was devoted to his family. His greatest pride and deepest joy came from being a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. To his daughters, he wasn't simply a father—he was their protector, teacher, biggest supporter, and lifelong hero. There was never a doubt in their hearts that they had the world's best dad. His love was steady, unconditional, and unwavering, and the lessons he taught through his example will continue to guide those who loved him for generations to come.

Steve was blessed to meet and hold his precious great-granddaughter, Autumn, a moment his family will forever treasure and that memory now stands as a beautiful final chapter in his story of love and family.

Steve was preceded in death by his beloved parents, M.L. "Rusty" Sasser and Constance (Tuminello) Sasser; his sister, Dora Love; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Charlotte Sasser; his daughters, Connie Sasser Matthews and Stephanie Sasser (James); his stepdaughter, Jennifer Wilson; his granddaughters, Brooklyn Puckett (River) and Abagail Sasser (Ty); his step-grandchildren, Dawson, Lynleigh, and Hannah; and his beloved great-granddaughter, Autumn. He also leaves behind many extended family members, lifelong friends, and neighbors whose lives are richer because they had the privilege of knowing him.

Though Steve's earthly journey has ended, the love he gave, the wisdom he shared, and the countless lives he touched will live on forever. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is finally free from pain, resting peacefully in the presence of his Lord. His legacy of humility, kindness, faithfulness, and unconditional love will continue to inspire all who were blessed to call him husband, dad, grandfather, neighbor, and friend.

A Memorial Service celebrating Steve's life will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Aulds Funeral Home, 7849 East Kings Highway, Shreveport, Louisiana 71115. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Bro. Joey Ketchum.
