Shirley Gale Thompson Marusak, 68, of Shreveport LA passed away Monday, November 18, 2024, after a two-year courageous battle with cancer.

Shirley was born September 13, 1956, in Eastland, TX to Howard and Ella (Huber) Thompson.  She attended schools in Irving & the later in Eastland, graduating in 1975. She earned her teaching degree from Tarletan State University in 1978. She taught math for many years at Bowie Middle School in Irving Tx, retiring after 30 years. She married Gene Marusak October 2008, and they resided in Ennis Texas until his death in 2011. Shirley moved to Shreveport in 2012 where she worked several years at Chevyland until 2022. She was active member at Summer Grove Baptist Church. Shirley attended a weekly ladies bible study and managed to always connect with a bunco group wherever she lived.

Besides her husband Gene, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her sisters, Pam Schledwitz (Herb) of San Antonio, Tx and Becky O'Neal of Charleston, SC; 5 nieces & their children; stepchildren Matt (Dianna) Marusak, Shelley (Lancie) Greenlee, and Frank Marusak; and several beloved step-grandchildren.

Since cancer touched Shirley's life beyond her own, donations are requested to be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory.

A celebration of life will be Fri, Dec 13, 2024, at 11:00am, Summer Grove Baptist Church, 8924 Jewella Ave, Shreveport LA 71118.
