Shirley Ann Francis passed away with family by her side and she is finally at peace, and able to be with her husband Dr. Cercy D. Francis. She will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery. Shirley had a long and beautiful life, and it began with the marriage to Cercy who were both stationed in Bremerton, Washington, he as a Naval physician and she a Naval nurse. Shortly after their courtship, Cercy knew he wanted to be married to Shirley Ryan and they would grow old together. Together they had eight children, and raised them in Gig Harbor, Washington and had a beautiful but short-lived marriage; Cercy was diagnosed with a brain tumor and moved his family to Louisiana so his mother could help his young wife with their children. Cercy passed away in 1968 and Shirley became the sole provider for their eight children, she was given lots of advice on how to raise her eight children alone, and she took none of the suggestions, and instead put herself through nursing school and kept her family together, and with the help of her mother in law, Shirley and her children were able to grow up and create families of their own and thrive.
Shirley was a nurse in Bossier City for 30 plus years. She has seen joys and sadness in her life but always had a positive outlook and wicked sense of humor. Shirley or better known to her grandchildren as "Grams" saw her eight children grow and have children of their own.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Cercy Francis, and her youngest son Steven Francis. Her family has lost their guiding light and the glue that really kept the family together. Thank You mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, we will all miss you so.
Love, your children Derrel, Elizabeth, Barbara, Susan, Patricia, Robert, David, Steven and your nine grandchildren and your twelve great-grandchildren.
