SHREVEPORT – Sherryl Sharp Bryant, 66, passed from this life peacefully January 16, 2022 at home. She was born December 9, 1955 in Houston, TX, to Melton E. and Janette (Cater) Sharp.
Sherryl attended Denham Springs High School 1971-1974, where she was in the DSHS marching band, National Honor Society, and taught piano lessons to a group of younger students. Following graduation, she attended Louisiana State University where she was in the LSU Tigers marching band and majored in Music Education.
She later graduated from Northwestern State University with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and worked as a Critical Care Registered Nurse at Christus Schumpert Highland Hospital, where she met her soulmate, Robert W. Bryant. After they married, she enrolled in Northwestern State University again and graduated with honors with her Master's degree in Nursing in 2004. She worked as a Nurse Practitioner at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center until 2012, when she was diagnosed with dementia.
She had a beautiful voice and continued to sing and play piano at church until she was no longer able. She adored her grandchildren who all called her "Nana" and loved going to her house, where she and "Bubba" always had all the snacks, candy and drinks they liked and spoiled them before sending them home.
Sherryl was predeceased by a sister, Carol Sharp; and stepson, Adam Bryant. Surviving in addition to her husband Robert, are her parents, Melton and Janette Sharp; sister, Deana (Pat) Neely; daughters, Jennifer Phillips and Julie Phillips; son, James Phillips (Heidi Smith); stepson, Andrew Bryant; grandchildren Corbin Butler, Kaylah Phillips, Ava Butler, Ezrie Phillips, Eliza Singleton, Keaton Bryant, Brandon Phillips, Judah Phillips, Joanna Phillips, and Charlie Bryant.
A private graveside service of remembrance will be held on Thursday, January 20 at Forest Park East in Shreveport. Those who wish to remember Sherryl charitably may make gifts in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association. Special thanks to St. Joseph Hospice for helping Robert care for Sherryl in her final days.
