Bossier City-Sherry Baden Gohl, 55, of Bossier City died at home Sunday, June 19, 2016. She is at peace now, having given her last breath to a life that led from Morgantown, West Virginia, through Alexandria, Virginia, to Bitburg, Germany, and finally to Bossier City. A world traveler, a devoted mother and wife, a beautiful academic, and a kind-hearted professional, Sherry will be loved and remembered by all who were fortunate to have had her in their lives.
Those closest to her know deeply Sherry's devotion, loyalty and optimism. She provided a home for six boys to become whoever they wanted to be, even if that meant waking at 3 in the morning to finish a 5th grade science project or leaving work early to get to a baseball game. She opened her home and gave her spare time to anyone in need, caring for her nephew for the first years of his life, hosting an exchange student from African country Cameroon, and volunteering with the Air Force Sergeants Association, the VA retirement home of Bossier City, and through church functions and Bible study at Bellaire Baptist Church. If you happened to be a friend of her family, you were simply family to Sherry.
But we also know of Sherry's deep and patient pursuit of education. Though she spent a life devoted to her children and to her husband, to her professional life in the Library of Congress and for the Department of the Air Force — which awarded her for Meritorious Civilian Service on March 5, 2016 — Sherry refused to give up her lifetime goal of serving others, especially children, through child education and psychology. In 2014, at the age of 53, Sherry achieved her Bachelor's degree from Louisiana Tech University and had begun a Master's Degree in Child Psychology. She taught us what it means to work hard, what it means to never give up on a dream, and what it means to devote your life to others.
And she also taught us what it means to be the kind of person that brightens the world around you. She will be remembered for her travels across the world: the days she led her family across green fields in Ireland and centuries-old buildings on the coast of Italy, the delayed getaway to Paris with Tresa Davies, her best friend from the age of 13, the pool days swimming with her grandchildren, and the many adventures she shared and survived with her beloved husband of 15 years, Ricky Dean Gohl, the love of Sherry's life, as they sailed the world, asked for directions in the wrong language, and pointed to every monument along the way. She taught us how to live — always smiling, always curious, and always a light for others. Her laugh will remain with us forever; not even time can take that from us.
She is survived by her mother Marcia Higgins of Arthurdale, West Virginia, her beloved husband of 15 years Ricky Gohl, and her children: Jason Robert Robinson, his wife Jennifer and their three children Anthony, Jade, and Tristen of Stafford, Virginia, Robbie Maxwell Baden and his wife Karina of San Francisco, California, Nicholas Andrew Baden of Bossier City, Louisiana, Matthew Glen Gottlob Gohl, his wife Carmen and their child Camila of Queretaro, Mexico, Marcus Andrew Devon Gohl of Edwards AFB, California, and Trevor MacDougall Jakob Gohl of Sacramento, California. Our family is truly thankful to everyone who, in one way or another, accompanied us and gave us strength and prayer during her sickness. Please continue to pray for the Baden, Gohl, Robinson and Higgins Family; your prayers are all welcome.
The Memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 2nd at 2:00 pm at the Bellaire Baptist Church, 1210 Bellaire Blvd. Bossier City LA 71112.
Timothy 4:7-8
7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
