On Friday, April 16 2021, peacefully at home with her family by her bedside, Dr. Satnam K Singh, age 77, bid farewell to us all. Her husband of 48 years Kanwal Jeet Singh; Children Rimi and Roby; Son in Law Bharat, Daughter in Law Chanchal; grand-daughters Ruhani, Sahej, and Preet; and her dearest friends, Mukund and Charu Shah survive her.
Satnam was born in Punjab Province, Unpartitioned India, in 1943; she had humble beginnings with her family of 7 siblings migrating to Kanpur, India, during the 1947 partition. This laid the foundation for her never quit and tough-as-nails attitude. She completed Medical school at GSVM India in 1968. After marrying in 1973, she and her husband Kanwal Jeet Singh moved to the United States. Being a doctor was her essence—the love and the dedication she had for her patients showed in her highly successful 40-year career as a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician in Monroe and Alexandria, Louisiana. Service to others was what she lived by. Her compassion for others, joy of cooking, and deep love for her three granddaughters kept her going throughout life.
As a devoted Sikh she was always close to her Guru (Creator). She spent time everyday gaining enlightenment through following the teachings of the gurus. Sikhism believes in transmigration of the soul which never dies. However, the human life is an opportunity for the soul to break out of the cycle of transmigration (karma) to unite with Waheguru, the Wondrous Giver of Knowledge, the Sikh name for God. Such union takes place through good deeds, truthful conduct and Waheguru's grace (nadar).
