Ruby Crane Cook , age 97, peacefully went to her Lord and Savior October 28, 2018. She was born August 28, 1921 in Forest, Louisiana to John J. and Mary Ponder Crane. Later the family moved to Newellton, Louisiana to be cotton farmers. Knowing at an early age, Ruby wanted to leave the farm to become a nurse. She studied in Alexandria and New Orleans, Louisiana. She married Terry Andrews and shortly after, he was killed in Japan during World War II.
In 1945 she married Titus R. Cook and they moved to Shreveport and remained there to live and raise their four daughters. In 1952 Ruby began her career as a R.N. at Confederate Memorial Hospital, later changed to LSU Medical Center. She retired in 1979 as pediatric floor supervisor. In 1977 she received the distinguished honor of nurse of the year. In 1966 the family joined Broadmoor Baptist Church. Ruby was very active in Sunday school, WMU, senior choir, the VIP, and many volunteer projects. She was also very active in the Shreveport community renewal. She loved serving her Lord and glorifying His name.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 49 years Titus R. Cook; daughter Katherine Anne Cook Selsor; siblings Tilman, Marie, Garvice, Talmadge, Mignon.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughters Glenda Cook Melton, Sandra Sue Cook Watts, Deborah Cook Deen and husband Bill; Grandchildren Tracey Melton Horton (Rodney), Jennifer Sterba White (Solomon), Wendy Watts Feldmann (Randy), Bill Watts, Jr., Kristen Melton Thornhill (John), Kimberly Selsor Carson, and Christina Selsor. Also surviving are sixteen great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at 10am Friday, November 2, 2018, at Broadmoor Baptist Church Memorial Chapel with a memorial service to follow at 11am. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Moller and staff, and hospice nurses Shari and Donna. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or charity of your choice.
