Obituary

Ronald Wayne Boyd was born in Hope, Arkansas on July 22, 1938 and passed away on October 24, 2024 after a lengthy illness.

Wayne was the ultimate "music man", a devoted husband to Elli and loving father to his sons, David and Bruce.   He met his wife, while playing in the orchestra at the Little Theater in Monroe, Louisiana, where a cute dancer in The Pajama Game, named Eleanor, caught his eye and the rest is history. The couple moved to Shreveport in the early 1960's.   As a young man, Wayne played drums at the Louisiana Hayride for the likes of Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley.  He graduated from Centenary College with a degree in music. He taught music for many years and during that time he played in many bands and orchestras, one of which was Southern Rain, where every Saturday night at the Elks Club his followers would come to listen.     Wayne was a beloved member of the Shreveport community, most especially Kings Highway Christian Church.  When the doors opened, Wayne was there.  He was married to The Church Mouse and was a member of the choir for over 50 years.  He will be remembered for his beautiful tenor voice performing tirelessly at weddings, funerals and special church services.

Some church members say that they always looked forward to the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service, where Wayne would sing The Lord's Prayer, Oh Holy Night and Ava Maria.

Wayne is survived by his son, Bruce, and daughter-in-law, Tina, brother, Jimmy Boyd, and his sister-in-law, Suzy Moritz-Rawdin and brother-in-law, Scott Rawdin and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Geneva and Bill Boyd, his wife, Elli, aka, The Church Mouse, his son, David and his brothers Volmer Boyd and Perry Boyd and brother-in-law, Sam R. Cammack.

The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Manor Stratmore for the constant kindness and care they gave to Wayne.
