IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roger
Nelson
July 7, 1940 – December 23, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Martin Nelson at the age of 84. Roger was born July 7, 1940 in Arlington, South Dakota to Martin and Helen Nelson, and died at his home in Shreveport, Louisiana December 23, 2024 after a year-long battle with cancer.
Roger graduated from Oldham High School in 1958, and then served in the US Navy on the USS Brown for three years. He then began working for Seismograph Service Corporation (SSC) mainly in oil exploration and computer maintenance. He met and married the love of his life Mary Wanda (Boothe) Nelson of Monroeville, Alabama in 1965. They had two children Brian Roger and Dawn Renee. After traveling abroad for 5 years they settled in Tulsa, Ok. He retired from SSC after 30 years and went to work for Lowrance Electronics before moving to Shreveport, LA in 2017.
Roger enjoyed many outdoor activities; baseball, golf, fishing, and pheasant hunting. He had many life-long friends and co-workers that he enjoyed spending time with. He was kind, generous, and the ultimate garage guy and tinkerer who could fix anything. His greatest joy was spending time and making memories with his children and grandchildren. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his wife Mary, parents Martin and Helen, and granddaughter Taylor Dawn Capps.
He is survived by his son Brian and daughter-in-law Kristin Nelson; daughter Dawn and son-in-law Ron Glenk; grandchildren, Baylee Capps (Rico), Chase Nelson, Lainey Nelson, Renee Glenk, and Reese Glenk; sisters Mary Bush and Marcia Schoeberl (Leo), brother Richard Nelson (Jeanne), cousin Karen Harvey (Glenn), close friends Gus and Doris Grassi, and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are welcome to gather and share memories at a Celebration of Life at a future date in Tulsa OK.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society in Roger's honor.
