Shreveport, LA - Robert Kingsland Marquess passed away on August 9, 2016 at the age of 85.
He was born on October 8, 1930 in Saint Louis, Missouri, son of Robert Lee Marquess and Verceda Kingsland Marquess (Froussard).
He graduated in 1947 from Saint Louis University High School and in 1951, he graduated "cum laude" from Saint Louis University with a B.S. in accounting. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1952 – 1954, primarily as an auditor in the Army Audit Agency.
On July 31, 1954, he married Millie Methvin of Natchitoches, LA. Their marriage lasted 62 years until his death. They moved to Shreveport soon after and he became a CPA in 1956, where he practiced for 40 years, retiring in 1998. He served as president of the Shreveport Chapter of the Society of Louisiana CPAs for one year. He was also very active with the Shreveport Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees), serving as president, treasurer, director and state director.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Verceda Marquess. He is survived by his wife, Millie; and sons Bruce Allan Marquess (and wife Michella) of Arlington, TX and Stephen Kingsland Marquess (and wife Susan) of Fernandina Beach, FL. And by four grandchildren: Jennifer Sheffield (Marquess) of Arlington, VA; David Marquess of Arlington, TX; Corinne Marquess of Millersburg, PA and Lance Marquess of Wilmington, DE, and one brother, Don Phillip Marquess of Saint Louis, MO.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on August 13, 2016, at 11 a.m., with a reception following in the church parlor. Interment will be in the church courtyard in the columbarium. Services will be conducted by Reverend Paul Martin.
