Robert J. (Bob) Donovan, Jr., 84, died Sept. 6, 2016, in Shreveport after a brief illness. Mr. Donovan was born on July 28, 1932, in Monroe, La., to Robert J. and Ruth (Rudy) Lowery Donovan. He was the oldest of four children.

Mr. Donovan graduated from St. John's High School in Shreveport and attended Louisiana Tech. He graduated from LSU Law School in 1958 and was admitted to the Louisiana bar that same year. For many years he was a partner at Naff, Kennedy, Goodman, Stephens, Donovan and Parnell law firm in Shreveport, subsequently practicing on his own until his retirement in 1995.

An avid sailor and long-time member of the Shreveport Yacht Club, after his retirement Mr. Donovan crossed the Pacific Ocean as part of a two-man crew. He attended Louisiana Tech on a golf scholarship and continued playing the sport until the last months of his life. He also enjoyed hot air ballooning and cooking.

He is survived by his daughters, Kathleen Law (Charles) of Morocco, Karen Donovan (Pam) of Lancaster, Pa., Lynn Barnett (Scott) of Brevard, N.C., and Samantha Donovan of Shreveport; sisters, Sheila Creth of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Marion Donovan of Hendersonville, N.C.; brother, William Donovan(Rozeana) of Worthington, Minn.; grandchildren, Sarah Schappaugh of Denver, Colo., Leighton Law of Columbia, S.C., Megan Gonzales of Shreveport and Harriett Law of Austin, Texas; former wife, Marshan Luttrell of Shreveport; and step-children Meischelle, Kelly and Jennifer. Bob was pre-deceased by his first wife, Joann Wood Donovan.

The family is especially grateful for the kind help and friendship of Patrick Hart as well as the care given by Mrs. Eartha Garner, Mrs. Linda Todd and Miss Crystal Mayes.

A wake is scheduled for Friday, September 9, 2016, from 5 to 7pm at the Tiki Bar and Grill in Shreveport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First Tee of NW Louisiana, 2200 Milam, Shreveport, LA 71103, or to The Providence House, 814 Cotton St., Shreveport, LA 71101.
