In Loving Memory
Rickie F. Garrison
September 8, 1966- May 22, 2025
"Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High, will rest in the shadow of the Almighty"- Psalm 91
Rickie F. Garrison, affectionately known as "Rick" and "Papa Rick," was born on September 8, 1966, in Dalton, GA, and passed away on May 22, 2025, in Shreveport, Louisiana, after a brief battle with cancer. He was 58 years old.
Born on September 8, 1966, in Dalton, GA. Rick was the child of Mattie Francis Ridley and Richard Eugene Garrison. He and his half-brother Franklin grew vegetables and helped with animals as children on farms, traveling all over Georgia. Rick was a high-spirited teenager who enjoyed many hijinks and antics, sometimes getting into trouble. Through a mutual friend in the early 90s, he met Rhonda Garrison. They were best friends and had never spent more than a weekend apart. They were married for 29 wonderful years.
Rick was a founding member of Restoration Church in Stonewall, LA. He spent many years working in construction. He was a loving, caring husband and doting father to his four children. He loved playing video games, fishing, a 44oz fountain coke, the Georgia Bulldogs ("Go Dawgs"), and the Atlanta Falcons. He enjoyed watching Survivor and never missed an episode of Big Brother (even auditioning once or twice), and many hours of various game shows. Rick could come across as grumpy, but he was often quick with a smile and a twinkle in his blue eyes. He was a natural leader and usually offered advice, encouragement, and sometimes sass to those who needed his guidance. Honoring his wishes, he will give the gift of sight and healing by donating his eyes and tissue. His ashes will rest in a pyramid in his backyard because " while everyone else's grave may be the same size, mine won't be. I want to be kept in a pyramid."
Rick is lovingly remembered by his wife, Rhonda Garrison; brother, Franklin Long, married to Jeneva, with sons Aarik and Aarin Long of Dalton, GA; Cousin, Greg Clark, married to Patti Clark, of Logansport, LA; Daughter, Randa Lopez Morgan, married to Wesley and their son Rowan, of Baton Rouge, LA; Daughter, Lyndi Lopez of Shreveport, LA; Daughter, Kelli Garrison King of Longview, TX; and Son, Matthew Garrison, of Houston, TX. Niece, Mandi Dillard, married Leighton, with daughters Laylah, Sierra, and Lilleigh of Logansport, LA. His memory is also cherished by those who knew him and shared in his life's journey.
His father, Richard Eugene Garrison, and his Mother, Mattie Francis Ridley Sisson, preceded him in death.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
A service will be held at his church, The Restoration Church in Stonewall, LA, on Saturday, May 31st, 2025. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with a service and reception. The family requests that attendees wear Rick's favorite color, blue.
In September, for his birthday, we will be hosting a celebration of life—more information will follow.
