Rickey
Young, Jr.
June 28, 1979 – June 9, 2026
Rickey D. Young, Jr., a beloved husband, devoted father, son, brother, and friend to all, passed away leaving behind a legacy of laughter, kindness, and unyielding love.
A lifelong resident of Shreveport, Louisiana, Rickey was a vibrant force of nature who truly never met a stranger. He was the hilarious, fun-loving life of the party, a kind-hearted soul who was always willing to help anyone in need, even a complete stranger. Anyone who knew him will forever remember his mischievous smirk, the unmistakable sign that he was either about to tell a fantastic joke, pull a lighthearted prank, or simply bring a burst of joy into the room.
Rickey was a 1997 graduate of Southwood High School. Professionally, he was a man who successfully wore many hats. For 26 years, he dedicated himself as an inside salesman, building strong relationships across the automotive industry. He also brought his signature charismatic energy to the local nightlife as a bartender and the owner of Time Out Sports Bar.
Outside of work, Rickey knew how to live life to the fullest. He loved nothing more than going hunting, hitting the golf course, traveling with his family, and playing Gorilla Ball at the Elks Lodge. An avid sports fan, he could always be found cheering passionately for LSU football and attending Byrd football games.
While Rickey had many passions, he would hands-down say his greatest accomplishment in life was being the most amazing father to his two boys. He adored them more than life itself, and they weren't just his sons, Ethan and Liam were his two best friends. Rickey was always present, whether he was cheering them on from the stands at their games or sharing his love for the outdoors on their countless hunting trips together.
Rickey had a rare gift for connection, and over his lifetime, his circle grew far beyond bloodlines. He will be deeply missed by a multitude of friends whom he truly considered family. To Rickey, a good friend wasn't just company, they were part of his inner circle, and he loved them with the same fierce loyalty he gave to his own kin.
He is survived by the absolute love of his life and devoted wife, Candace; his two adored sons, Ethan and Liam; his mother, Nancy Carroll; and his cherished grandmother, Marie "Mimi" Buehler. He also leaves behind his sisters, Kim Young and Jamie Schroeder (Kevin); aunts, Vicki Leckie and Rita Fegley; uncle, Felix "Chip" Strother; his father-in-law, Terry Heffern (Holly); mother-in-law, Gwen Heffern; grandmother-in-law, Irene Heffern; brother-in-law, Jason Heffern (Elaine); and sister-in-law, Jessica Dixon (Jeff). His memory will also be forever cherished by his cousins, Korie Lee, Kyle Leckie, Scotty Lee, Clinton Strother, Tyler Strother and Sharlotte Sharbeno alongside a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless lifelong friends.
Rickey was reunited in heaven with his father, Rickey Young, Sr.; his grandfathers, Felix Strother and Don Buehler; his grandparents, James and Dorothy Young; and his aunts, Beverly Lee and Beatrice Sharbeno.
