Richard O'Neil Whatley, Sr., age 80, passed away on April 28, 2023, at his home from Alzheimer's disease. Richard was born on April 10, 1943, at the charity hospital in Shreveport, LA to Herman and Jewel Whatley from Vivian, LA.

He lived most of his life in Vivian. He worked in the oilfield for 23 years. He loved to go fishing, play farkle, dominoes, poker, and work the circle a word puzzle books. Richard loved to spend time with his grandchildren, and he loved to work in the yard. He had a motorcycle wreck April 14, 1982, an was not able to work. In 2006 he moved to Toccoa, GA to be with his three children, then in 2018 they moved back home until his death.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Jewel Whatley; siblings Mary Helen Endsley, Ralph Whatley, Donald Whatley, Earnest Whatley, Remona Cubley, and Larry Whatley.

He is survived by his children Lisa Walker, Richard O'Neil Whatley, Jr., Chris Whatley, and Billie Jo Whatley; four grandchildren C.J. Whatley, Carrie Ramey, Heather White, and Rebecca White.

A visitation will be held from 2-4pm Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Aulds Funeral Home Chapel in Shreveport. A graveside service will be held Friday, May 19, 2023, at 4pm at Munnerlynn Chapel Cemetery in Ida, LA. Serving as pallbearers are Lloyd Miller, Destry Thompkins, Cody Alexander, Richard Whatley, Jr., CJ Whatley, and Brandon Cook.
