Richard Johnson, 69 years old, of Elm Grove, LA, died at home from complications of End-Stage Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease on January 10, 2024. He was born in Augusta, GA in 1954 to Marion Lee Johnson and Charlene Matthews. Richard was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Richard started painting houses with his uncle at the young age of 12 years old. He loved fishing, building birdhouses and loved sitting outside feeding the birds, he was always in the yard working. He never met a stranger and treated everyone with the same respect. He also enjoyed cooking and was very good at making chili. He enjoyed teaching his daughters all that he could. They were his pride and joy. He also cherished all his grandchildren, and great grandson. He fought this battle as long as he could, he gave it his all. He will be remembered as the strongest man ever.
Richard was preceded by parents, father Marion Johnson, and mother Charlene Matthews, and grandson, Zachary Johnson and survived by his wife of 46 years, Priscilla Johnson, three daughters, Elizabeth Nixon, Mary Whitehorn and Denise Johnson, six grandchildren, Jess, Brittany, Haley, Madison, Pepé and Adden, one great grandson, Boston, and two sisters Dolores Tutten and Teresa Johnson.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 11am-1pm at Lighthouse Baptist Church at 7789 Hwy 157, Haughton, LA 71037. The funeral service will start at 1pm at Lighthouse Baptist Church and the burial will be immediately after the service located at Haughton Cemetery.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Robert Savory and Willis Knighton hospice for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Richard. We would also like to thank the most loving and caring nurse Christy Graham for showing our beloved one so much love.
