Obituary

Richard "Jerry" Bond, Age 78, passed away Sunday April 10, 2022, at CHRISTUS Highland Hospital, with his family by his bedside. Jerry was an adventurer, storyteller, and an avid bicycle rider. One of his many passions was sailing, which took him through exciting, hilarious, and sometimes dangerous adventures throughout the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. He was happiest on his boat, "The Mary Rebecca". He lived life to the fullest until his final days.

Jerry was born January 11, 1944, in Shreveport Louisiana. He graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in 1962 and attended both LSU and Northeast before embarking on a 60-year career in many fields. From Sales to marine construction, to pipeline construction, he excelled at most everything he attempted. He was proudest of being the first retiree from Prime Horizontal based in The Netherlands which allowed him to travel the globe for many years.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Leon Bond and Rebecca Monk, his sister Judy Borg, and his wife Mary Lee Bond. Left to cherish his memory, are his daughter Christy Bond, son Richard Bond Jr (Michelle), son Jonas Bond (Nicole). Grandchildren Megan Bond, Caroline Bond, Ashley Gamble (Nick), Allie Davis. Sister Sharon Englert (David), Susan Saunders (Jimmy), Mona Lisa Botzong, Sandy Hayes…the mother of his children, Stepmother Marita Wilson as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and Great Grandchildren. He was especially close to his Aunt Sarah Jane Foster.

A graveside service will be held Saturday April 23, at 10:30 at Colquitt Cemetery followed by a celebration of life at 5:00 PM at The Elks Lodge in Shreveport Louisiana. We hope to laugh, tell stories and remember dad as he would want us to…. forever young.

A special thanks to "The Old Farts Club", Ardie Cesario, Frank Lawler, and Herb Hobgood. He absolutely loved your weekly lunches solving the world's problems, and to Pam Powell for always being there when he needed you.

Honorary pallbearers are the countless friends he made across the globe.
