Obituary

Raymond Mayeaux, 81, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on July 17, 2020. Born on December 3, 1938 in Mamou, Louisiana he was affectionately known as "Radio Ray" for most of his adult life. This was due to his love and passion for antique radios. Mr. Mayeaux was a local businessman, and was most recently, co-owner of Bayou Belle Traders in Bossier City, LA for nine years. Ray never met a stranger, and proudly sold and repaired radios for many happy and loyal customers for over fifty years. He had a "magnetic personality" and could light up a room with his Cajun charm and humor. His stories of growing up in south Louisiana were of epic proportions, and always left his listeners wanting a little bit more. He loved Mardi Gras and always hosted a party for close friends during the annual Krewe of Highland parade. "Radio Ray" was an avid music fan and could be heard most every day listening and singing along to the music of the 50's and 60's. Especially the music of Fats Domino and Big Joe Turner. As a teenager, Ray had the opportunity to see both entertainers in concert and never forgot the experience. It defined his musical taste and brought him much happiness for the remainder of his life. Mr. Mayeaux will be remembered as a very generous and kind person that always put others before himself. The "greatest gift" that he gave to his family and friends was quite simply…. His time. Just to be around him was a memory to treasure forever. Our hearts are broken today as we say goodbye to our dear friend and family member. However, our loss is Heaven's gain, as Ray has now reached his eternal home.
