Obituary

On April 6, 2026, at the age of 43, Preston Workman left this world far too soon. He was born on June 27th, 1982 to Maria Reynolds and William Workman, who welcomed him into a life that would be filled with heart, resilience. and purpose.

Preston spent his early years in Topeka, KS, where he lived with his father and stepmother, Bill and Edith Workman and his brother Joshua. As a young man, he was active in the sheriff’s mounted posse and the Naval Sea Cadets. These experiences helped shape the strong, determined, and adventurous man he would become.

Preston later moved to Kansas City, where he lived with his mother and attended Park Hill High School. He loved soccer and played from the time he was a young boy all the way through his high school years at Park Hill. During this time, he formed many lasting friendships and deepened the loving bond he shared with his mother, Maria. Throughout his life, Preston leaned on the steady support he received as he navigated his own struggles and worked to build a better future for himself and his family. He deeply appreciated the help he received with Kaleb from his Mother and his Gigi who played an important role in raising Kaleb, The stability and guidance he found in his mother’s sobriety made a profound difference in his life. Her strength gave him something solid to hold onto, and he carried that support with gratitude as he continued striving to grow into the man, he wanted to be. Preston and his brother, Joshua, shared a bond that was rare and deeply rooted. They were each other’s steady place in a world that often shifted around them. Their relationship was built on love, loyalty, and a connection that time, distance, or circumstance could never weaken.

At the age of 19, Preston became a father, an event that forever changed his life. Preston’s oldest son, Kaleb suffered an accident at just five and a half months old, and as a result suffered a TBI and Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy, Preston dedicated himself to providing for the best life possible for Kaleb. This commitment led him to a career on the railroad where he worked tirelessly and eventually became a manager for CPKC Railroad, a role he was incredibly proud of and had a huge impact on the railroad across the United States.

Preston was the proud father of two sons, Kaleb Workman (23) and Joshua Joel "JJ" Workman (19). He found immense pride in JJ's service for the United States Navy, one of the proudest moments of his life. He was extremely proud of the successful man that Kaleb became, they were very close. Though he carried regrets about missed time due to working over the road, his love for his boys was immense and unwavering and he remained devoted to them in every way.

Preston recently moved to Louisiana for his new position with the Railroad with his loving fiancé, Shannon White and her son Ryker. They began building a new life in Louisiana where they quickly met many friends and were well known in the community. Shannon was the love of Preston's life, and he cherished every moment they shared together. He often spoke about their future and could not wait to marry her and continue building a life filled with love, laughter, and family. The happiness he found with Shannon brought a renewed light into his life, and their bond was undeniable to all who knew them.

Preston had a passion for life and lived it at full speed. He loved sports, fishing, hunting, and the outdoors. He loved to travel and he never missed a chance to enjoy the world around him. He loved working out and eating healthy, coining him the name, “Juice”. He was known for his larger-than-life personality, his loyalty, and his ability to light up any room he entered. Preston never met a stranger, only friends he hadn't met yet. Once you were in his life, you were there for good.

Though Preston faced personal struggles throughout his life, he took pride in his progress and worked hard to become the best version of himself. His strength, honesty, and commitment to growth will be remembered by those who loved him.

Preston left this world doing what he loved, alongside the woman he loved. His spirit, his laughter, and his deep love for his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

He is survived by his children, Kaleb Workman and Joshua "JJ" Workman, father, William Workman; his stepmother, Edith Workman; and their children, Kristina Workman, her children, Jordan and Jaxon Workman and Skyler Workman. He is also survived by his mother, Maria Reynolds; his brother, Joshua Workman; and his children, Josephine and Jaimeson Workman.
