Dr. Phillip W. Balsmeier, of Shreveport, Louisiana died October 7, 2024, of heart failure. He was 86 years old.
He was born March 21, 1938, in Anthony, Kansas, the only son of William Philip Balsmeier and Marjorie Balsmeier Watts.
He received a bachelor's degree in Math from Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas in 1965, a master's degree in business administration from Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas in 1969, and a Ph.D. in Business Administration (Management) from University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Arkansas in 1972. He retired from teaching at Nichols State University, Thibodaux, Louisiana in June 2006.
Dr. Balsmeier was married to Janet Marie Scheibe in Waterville, Kansas December 11, 1966. They had no children. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and half-brothers, Maurice Balsmeier and Richard Balsmeier.
Dr. Balsmeier served his country in the United States Army from 1957-1960. He received a commission in 1977 and retired as Lieutenant Colonel from the Army Reserve after serving 16 years at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. He was called back into active duty for Desert Storm in 1991.
Phil's cremains will be buried at Riverside Cemetery in Waterville Kansas.
In lieu of flowers. memorial contributions may be made to the scholarship already established in the name of Phillip and Janet (Scheibe) Balsmeier Scholarship Fund (Fund# 121139) at Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas.
