Loving Mother, Mamaw Peg, Sister, Friend

Peggy Harris Young, 84, of Mooringsport, LA., passed away peacefully at home on February 22, 2024 after a lengthy illness.

Peggy was born October 21, 1939, in Shreveport, LA., to the late Ervin Grover Harris and the late Mildred Goodman. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Tommy Smelley (Carol) of Mooringsport, LA., Joe Smelley of Haughton, LA., and her beloved granddaughter, Rachel Waniewski (Jarad) and great granddaughter, Hayden from Haughton, LA., her granddaughter, Kayla Wall of Springfield, LA., her siblings Bennetta Ballew (Tommy), Judy Gill, Jim Washburn, and Eddie McClaren. She was also very loved by the extended Clifton family, the extended Waniewski family, and her family at Tower Baptist Church.

Peggy lived her entire life in Louisiana. She grew up in Ruston, and later moved to Blanchard, Gonzales, Shreveport, Haughton, and then Mooringsport. She held numerous jobs, with a favorite being at Stan's Record Shop in Shreveport, LA. But, her absolute favorite was being a dog sitter, as she had a unique love for all animals. She loved to garden and work outside, crafting (she carried tools around to take "stuff" apart and put it back together). She also had a love of music, especially gospel and George Jones. She would frequently attend singings, with her road dog and friend, Cathy Hester at Tower Church and Blanchard Town Hall. Anyone that knew her knew she loved her black coffee and Little Debbie cakes (and Carol's cooking). Peggy was a beautiful person who spread love, happiness, and Jesus with everyone she knew.

The family would like to express special thanks to Gentiva Hospice, especially Rudy, and our family for their help and support, enabling us to keep her at home, during this difficult time. Although she will be greatly missed, we take complete comfort in knowing that she is in the arms of Jesus and we will be reunited in Heaven. She will forever live in our hearts.

A memorial service to celebrate Peggy's life will be held Friday, March 1, 2024 at 3pm at Tower Baptist Church, 6103 Hwy 169 in Mooringsport, LA., with Brother James Gstohl officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to her beloved Tower Baptist Church.
