Obituary

Funeral services for Patsy R. “Pat” Dewitt will be held Monday, March 16, 2026, at Aulds Funeral Home in Shreveport, Louisiana; Visitation at 10am with a funeral service to follow at 10:30am. Interment will be at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery at 12:30pm.

Pat was born April 29, 1954, to Cora and Theodore Cook in Lubbock, Texas, and passed away March 4, 2026, in Shreveport, Louisiana, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.

In 1972, Pat left Texas to join the United States Army, where she proudly served her country until 1983. Her years of military service expanded her world and shaped her outlook on life, allowing her to travel throughout many states and overseas to Thailand and Korea. She regarded her time in the Army as a wonderful and meaningful chapter of her life.

Following her service, Pat used the G.I. Bill to attend West Georgia University, where she graduated in 1988.

After completing her education, Pat began her career with “The Phone Company” in Georgia. She later transferred to Shreveport, where she worked as a Service Consultant in the Large Business Marketing Department. During her years with what is now AT&T, she was respected as a valued employee and formed many lasting friendships with coworkers whom she loved dearly. She retired in 2012.

In retirement, Pat enjoyed a comfortable life surrounded by friends and cherished the times when family came to visit. The joys of her life included serving her country, caring for her beloved dogs, and nurturing her personal walk with Jesus Christ. She was a devoted member of Grace Community United Methodist Church in Shreveport and took comfort in knowing she was a child of God.

Pat found great peace in her backyard sanctuary, where she spent many hours tending to and growing beautiful flowers. She also enjoyed reading, spending time with friends, and indulging in one of her favorite foods—crawfish. She loved crawfish!

Pat was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Junior, Skipper, and Terry Cook; her sister, Louise; and her beloved big sister and best friend, Virgie, who spent her final years living with Pat.

Left to cherish her memory are her special niece, Carol Rowan (Caleb); nephew, Buddy Rowan; great-niece, Bailey Rowan; great-great-nephew, Carter; numerous other nieces and nephews; and her three cherished canine companions, Jazzy, Jeep, and Jordy.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Chip McDonald and his staff at Willis-Knighton Cancer Center in Shreveport for their compassionate care throughout the years.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Susan G Komen Foundation at https://www.komen.org/how-to-help/donate/memorial-giving/, or Tunnel to Towers at https://t2t.org/donate/.
