IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Pamela Dixon
Baker
December 12, 1955 – May 31, 2023
Pamela Dixon Baker, of Shreveport, Louisiana, died peacefully at her home on May 31, 2023, after a lengthy illness.
Pam was born on December 12, 1955, in Paoli, Pennsylvania and spent her childhood in Monroe, LA. She graduated from Neville High School in Monroe and continued her education at Louisiana State University where she earned her bachelor's degree.
After college, Pam and her mother Dollie Petrus opened Ladies in Waiting, a children's boutique, in Monroe, LA. Pam later relocated to Shreveport where she opened a second retail location. Over the next 40 years, Pam transformed the business with passion and creativity. She was an amazing artist and used her talent to create beautiful pieces of custom art for her customers. She was rarely seen without her work clothes on, which were always covered in a rainbow of paint splatters.
To Pam, art was joy, and her talents were limitless. During her preteen and teen years, she taught herself cake decorating and the art of decorated sugar eggs (some of these eggs have survived the decades and still grace Easter tables each spring!). She also taught art for several years and loved helping her students explore their own talents. Pam's granddaughters were the light of her life, and she passed her creative knowledge on to them through the many paintings and crafts they made together.
Pam is survived by her daughter, Melissa Dixon Langley, of Shreveport, Louisiana as well as her cherished grandchildren, Lily and Olivia Langley. Also surviving her are her mother, Dollie Petrus of Shreveport, sister, Karen Williams (Joe) of Quitman, brother, Clay Petrus (Sara) of Montgomery, TX, and sister, Amy Giglio (Joe) of Shreveport, plus nieces, a nephew, a large extended family and many friends. Preceding her in death was her father, Charles Petrus.
A memorial service for the immediate family will be held at a later date. An informal reception to remember Pam will be held on Sunday, June 4th, between 2-5 pm at 128 Leo Avenue in Shreveport. The family welcomes friends and loved ones to come and go as is convenient.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
