IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nita E.
Zahn
January 17, 1937 – October 13, 2021
Nita Zahn was born Juanita Earline Morris, in Owensboro, KY on January 17, 1937, to Earl and Tessie Ruth (nee Boyd) Morris. She was the youngest of four children; Billie Blasingame (dec), Alice Williams, and James Morris (dec). She entered into Glory at 5am, on October 13, 2021.
It was discovered early on, at age three, that she was musically and vocally gifted, as she began appearing on regional radio shows in the Little Rock area. That talent later led to her joining the touring bands of Governor Jimmie Davis, Ernest Tubb, and Paul Howard and the Arkansas Cotton Pickers, and others. As part of these acts, she appeared numerous times on The Louisiana Hayride as well as The Grand Ol' Opry, Arthur Godfrey, and all the other major radio shows of that time. It was widely known that, though small in stature, she had a dynamite presence and possessed a huge voice. As a guitarist, she was praised by both Les Paul and Chet Atkins, and she was a long-time guitar and piano teacher in the Shreveport area.
She was later named as a staff songwriter for Tree, Int'l Publishing (now Sony), which was the largest in the nation at that time. She hosted numerous radio and television shows in the Ark-La-Tex region and in the Dallas area over the years, but basically "retired" from serious music-related ventures when she married Dave Vosbury in 1963.
She was later married to Robert Zahn until his death, and they made their home in south Shreveport.
She is survived by her sons, Robin E Vosbury (Karla), and David Keith Vosbury (Nicole), and by her sister, Alice Williams, as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren too numerous to count. She believed family was her blessing.
Our family would like to extend a special word of gratitude to her caretaker, and lifelong family friend, John Crow. Because of his tireless and selfless efforts, she was able to remain home until she passed away—just as she wished. There's so much good in this family's life that would not have been possible had he not been there. Thank you, JC.
We also want to thank the staff at St. Joseph's Hospice, and her home health professional, Shirley, for the wonderful job they did. We especially want to thank her nurse, Lindsey, who spent way too much of her own personal time taking great care of our mother. She simply wouldn't let anyone else do her job. Thank you, Lindsey.
Thank you all for the overwhelming outpouring of your love, your kindness and, most of all, your prayers during this difficult time. Her faith, and our faith, was never shaken. We will meet again soon.
