Minnielee Gordon Allen Hale, age 92, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at the Chateaus at the Montclaire in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Born June 26, 1925, in Memphis, Tennessee to Annie Leslie Bridger Gordon and William Bradshaw Gordon, Minnielee attended Snowden Elementary in Memphis and was graduated from Hutchison Preparatory School in 1943 where she was President of Beta Theta Sigma and a member of Chez Nous. She was talented and gifted in voice and piano, and attended the Memphis College of Music. Later, she went to Rhodes College where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and spent a great deal of time volunteering for the war effort.
In 1945, Minnielee married Richard Henry Allen of Memphis. She was President of Les Passe, which had a treatment center for cerebral palsy children at what is now Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center. She was a member of the Junior League, and for many years was the singing director of a troop of Jr. Leaguers who went into elementary school throughout Memphis to entertain children. Minnielee helped to organize the St. Elizabeth Guild at Calvary Episcopal Church and later became a faithful member of Holy Communion Episcopal Church. In addition to being a homemaker, volunteer and a devoted wife and mother, she was a women's sales associate for the Doncaster Company of North Carolina.
In 1977, Minnielee married Dr. Lester Leonard Hale of Gainesville, Florida. After being a professor and administrator at the University of Florida for 38 years, Dr. Hale retired and became a Presbyterian minister. Minnielee and he traveled widely in Florida and Louisiana as he was an interim pastor.
Minnielee will be remembered to many as a loving friend, a strong supporter of many charitable organizations, a faithful and loyal person to her church, an avid bridge player and a strong spiritual influence on her family.
Mrs. Hale is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Helen B. Gordon, of Baton Rouge, LA; and her brother, William B. Gordon, of Sardis, Mississippi; her uncle, Reverend Ulyssees Short Gordon, of Gainsville, Florida. She is survived by her son, Richard Henry Allen, Jr. of Memphis; her daughter, Sarah Allen Green, and husband Bob, of Bastrop, Louisiana; her grandson, Rob Green and his wife, Alexis; her granddaughter, Leslie Green Caraway and her husband, Patrick, all of Shreveport, Louisiana; her grandson, Vick Green, and his wife, Sophie of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and her granddaughter, Whitney Allen of Golden, Colorado; Courtney Humphrey Rolls and husband David of England, Herbo Humphrey and wife Alina of Memphis; her stepchildren Kent Trickel Nobles, and husband Carl, of Orlando, FL; Cynthia Hale Gross, of St. Augustine, FL; and Lester L. Hale, Jr., of Orlando; grandchildren Cynthia Trickel Collins, and husband, Dave; Leslie Trickel Scott, and husband Randy; William M. Trickel, all of Orlando; Kent Gordon Trickel and wife Kym, of Patterson, NY. ; her great- grandchildren; Ellie Rose Allen, Sadie, Ben and Mary Jackson Green, Emma, Gordon and Porter Caraway.
There will be a family graveside service in Sardis, Mississippi.
