Obituary

Mildred "Janell" Veuleman, born August 22, 1952, went to be with her "one true love," Michael Jerry Veuleman, Sr., on November 24, 2022, at the age of 70.

People used to say she was "too mean for something to happen to her." They really meant that she was too strong, too independent, too straightforward, too stubborn, among many other things. She survived a difficult childhood, having to grow up well before her time. She survived two open heart surgeries, beating the possibility of needing a third by more than double the average time. She survived meeting, whom she referred to as, her "one true love," only to lose him to the many heart attacks that changed who he was not long after. She took excellent care of him, on her own, until he passed away in 1999. She never stopped talking about him, about how much she loved and missed him. She always did her best to help and be there for any and everyone, even if it meant telling them like it was for their own good, and never received the appreciation she deserved. She worked hard her entire life, and never gave up, but she hadn't been that strong, independent, straightforward, stubborn, tell-it-like-it-is, person for a long time, due to health issues. She is finally where she always wanted to be, with her husband again, free from all the pain and hardships she had to endure in her lifetime.

These words are not enough to tell the story of who she was, how much she meant to us, or how much we will miss her, but she knows.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Georgia Brakefield, her husband, Michael Jerry Veuleman, Sr., and 3 of her 7 siblings: James "Bernard" Harold, Alice "Susie" Denmon, and Debra Anderson.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Swilley, along with her significant other, Carlee; son, John "Shannon" Philyaw, along with his significant other, Marcella; granddaughters, Candice Williams, along with her husband, Joshua; and Amanda Veuleman; grandson, John David "JD" Philyaw, along with his wife, Manda; great-granddaughters, Aundraya, Kenley, and Madison; great-grandsons, Dalton, Easton, Kaden, and Bentley; and 4 of her 7 siblings: Vivian "Midge" Whitworth, Charlotte Towns, along with her husband, Jim; Annette Sepulvado, along with her husband, Clifton; and Larry Prudhome, along with his wife, Lori; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
