Michael Leo Smithpeter, age 68, of Shreveport, Louisiana died on May 13, 2020 from injuries received in a car accident. He was born on August 12, 1951 in Minden, Louisiana to Granville Leo Smithpeter and Evelyn Lucille Spalding Smithpeter.

Mike was a mechanic. He worked at many locations including Sawyer drilling. He loved working on engines and could fix anything, whether it be oil field equipment, motorcycles, Volkswagens, or airplanes. He loved to fly and just recently bought a new ultralight airplane. Mike made many friends along the way. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; wife Connie Smithpeter; daughter Katie Smithpeter; brother Willis Smithpeter; two sisters Christine Chance and Patsy Rebouche.

Left to cherish Mike's memories are two sons Paul Smithpeter and Michael Bryan Smithpeter; two daughters Christy Smithpeter and Kay Smithpeter; twelve grandchildren; four sisters Sarah Miley, Egie Washburn, Frances Turner, and Carla Hopkins.

A memorial service for Mike will be held at 11am Thursday, May 21, 2020 at Oil City Methodist Church , located at 131 S. Kerley (Highway 538), where Mike attended church. Rev. Chris Charles will be officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests making a donation in Mike's name to the Oil City Methodist Church (P.O. Box 307 Oil City, Louisiana 71061) or to a charity of your choice .
