Mary Carolyn Swain Thompson passed away on January 6, 2024. She was surrounded by those that loved and cared for her. She was 95 years old.
Carolyn was born in Monroe, La on December 4, 1928, to Charles and Clara Moore Swain. She was raised in Monroe and graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in 1945. She attended La Tech University studying Home Economics. While working for Quachita National Bank she met and married Pat Thompson 1952, "her one true love". In 1973, Pat and Carolyn, moved their family to Shreveport and resided there until she passed. The last 9 years of her life she resided at Garden Park Nursing and Rehab. Carolyn was a member of St. Lukes United Methodist Church where she was active in Sunday School, Crafters and United Methodist Women and helped start the Upper Third group.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter Mary Pat Hunter (David) of Shreveport, grandsons, William Patterson Parker (Jade) of Monroe and Charles Samuel Parker of Shreveport. Great –granddaughters, Mary Maxine and Molly Mae Parker of Monroe. Nephews, Edward Barton Swain (Debbie) of Shreveport and Gregory Moore Swain of Woodstock Ga. One great-nephew Joshua Barton Swain (Crystal) of Bossier City. Carolyn is also survived by a bonus daughter Patti Sterritt Moran of Plano Tx.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Charles Pat Thompson and son Charles Ray Thompson. Her parents, Charles Speakman and Clara Moore Swain: her brother Charles A Swain Sr and his wife Emma Lou Swain: and nephew Charles "Chuck" A. Swain Jr.
Carolyn was known for her love of sewing, cooking, and traveling with her friends, Dorothy Nichols and Elinor Herd. She relished in being a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She spread her love and friendship to every life she touched.
The family wishes to thank all the staff at Garden Park who cared for Carolyn and showered her with love for the last 9 years.
The family will have a Memorial Service celebrating the life of Carolyn on February 9, 2024 at 2:00 at St. Lukes United Methodist Church in Shreveport.
Carloyn will be laid to rest at Mulhurns Memorial Park in Monroe, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Arthritis Foundation, St. Lukes UMC, or the UMC Childrens Home.
