Shreveport, LA - Mary D. Gentry passed away on February 1, 2015 at Nurse Care Rehabilitation Center in Shreveport, Louisiana following a hard fought battle against brain cancer. Mary Delores was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on April 24, 1954, the daughter of Andrew J. Ettleman and Mildred P. (Snow) Ettleman. Mary graduated from Bedford Community High School in Bedford, Iowa in May, 1972 and attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO for 2 ½ years. In 1979, Mary entered an educational treatment program of study in Omaha, NE, meeting the necessary qualifications to become a licensed alcohol and drug addiction counselor. It was during this time, that Mary met and married Gregory Gentry in April, 1981. In the spring of 1986, Mary and Greg relocated from Omaha, NE to Shreveport, LA. Mary was employed by Chemical Dependency Services of Shreveport, where she worked until 1989, when she started her own business, "Mary D. Gentry, LAC". Mary conducted individual, group, couple and family counseling sessions for her clients over the next 25 years of her life. Mary dedicated her life to helping hundreds of people cope and heal from chemical dependency and the myriad of social and family related issues associated with this disease. Mary's daughter Hollis Paige Gentry was born in June, 1988, and her son, Andrew Gregory Gentry followed in September, 1989. She was a devoted mother who was very active in her childrens' lives. Mary was preceded in death by her father, Andrew Ettleman; her three brothers, Roger, Rodney and R. Kelly Ettleman; and her nephew, Andrew Joshua Jones. She is survived of the home by her daughter, Hollie and son, Andy; her mother, Mildred Ettleman; her sister Donna (Mick) Jones; her nephew Shane (Rebecca) and their three children, Austin, Zachary and Cooper Jones all of Jefferson City, Missouri. A memorial service for Mary will be held at the Highland Club, 1711 Tulane Ave., Shreveport, LA on Sunday, Feb 8, 2015 at 3:00 pm. An informal celebration of her life will follow, concluding with a balloon release. Her final resting place will be with her children and in the hearts of all the people she touched.
