Marty Gene Moss was born on November 11, 1963, in Port Arthur, TX, to his parents, Gene Hershel Moss and Myrna Jane Byrd Moss. He was the youngest of four children, having three older sisters.

Though he started life in Port Arthur, TX, he grew to adulthood in Orange, TX. He graduated from Orangefield High School in 1982. He then graduated from The University of Texas Medical Branch in 1986 as a physician assistant.

Despite his secular achievements, the date that was most important to him was the day he dedicated his life by water baptism to Jehovah God on June 30, 1984.

From that moment on, his main focus became his theocratic career. That is what brought this country boy to live in New York City, where he began serving as a volunteer at the World Headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses in January 1989. While volunteering, he worked in Equipment Maintenance, Hospital Information Services, and later the Computer Department. In true fashion, Marty would always say, “It was my privilege to serve,” when referring to this time in his life.

However, the highlight of his time in New York was marrying the love of his life, Rita Gail Moore, on February 20, 1993. As a couple, they lived a simple life and continued to serve their loving Creator, Jehovah, together in full-time service for almost 33 years.

Marty was a person who found great joy in serving others. He helped countless people as a full-time minister, a medical professional, and wherever he saw a need. He was willing to get in the dirt to repair a sewer pipe or fix a mechanical issue. He also loved to share a sweet treat. Many remember the candy he loved to give out.

He passed away on January 21, 2026.

Marty is survived by his beautiful (his words) wife, Rita; his three sisters, Sabrina Burch (husband Kelley Burch), Killeen Moreno (husband Bobby Moreno), Dareena Mirrow (husband Erik Mirrow); and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and spiritual family. All of whom will miss his laugh as he told a joke and his way of explaining medical, scientific, and spiritual things in a way that we could all understand.
