Obituary

Martha Garner Holler was born in Clayton, Texas to Albert and Hazel Garner on February 9, 1934. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 22,2024 surrounded by family and friends after a long courageous struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Teresa Holler, sister Elsie Osborne, and her brothers David and Paul Garner.

She is survived by her daughters Rebecca (Gina) Bolden-Divine and Gail (Steve) Victoria, grand children: John Divine, Nicholas Divine, Kirsten Arbuckle, Joshua Young, Katherine Atkins, Abigail Victoria; eight great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a host of extraordinary friends that she embraced as her family.

Martha was a very well-educated woman who worked at Riley Beards, AT&T, VA Medical Center, and retired from LSUMC in Shreveport, Louisiana. Martha loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her home was filled with many treasures, a lot of laughter, and unconditional love. Her smile and laughter were contagious with many moments captured in pictures testifying to that. She had many friends and would often gather for prayer and fellowship. She was a magnificent woman of God and such a prayer warrior. We would joke telling her she had a direct line to God. She enjoyed playing her violin and guitar and always carried them with her in case someone needed spiritual uplifting. Martha would often say " Celebrate the bad things because the good things will celebrate themselves " and to " praise Him in all things " good and bad. She would often say " Mizpah " to you as you were leaving which was her way of proclaiming "May God watch over you". She touched many lives with her love and grace. If you spent any time with her you were guaranteed to leave with your life impacted and a happy heart.

She will be cremated, and per her request, there will not be a funeral service. At a later date we will have a celebration of life at Winterfield Cemetery in Longview, Texas. She will be laid to rest with her Papa and her Mama.

We would like to give a special thanks to all the staff at Garden Park Nursing and Retirement Center and to WK Pierremont for the kindness and compassion they showed our mother. We would also like to thank everyone for their prayers, especially Lee and Angela McClintock for the 2am visit to show your love and final prayer!

The family suggests memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
