Mark Layne Watts was born on March 29, 1954 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Valton "Joe" Watts and Rosemary Miller Watts.
He left this world on Thursday, December 22, 2022 after a lengthy illness.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Road, Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Monsignor Rothell Price of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
Mark resided in Garland, Texas, until 2011, working as a restaurant manager but then he was forced to retire due to many illnesses, and he moved back to Shreveport to be with family. Mark was born and raised Catholic. He graduated from C. E. Byrd High School and then attended LSU Shreveport business college and received a business degree.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Valton "Joe" Watts; mother, Rosemary Miller Watts; brother, John Philip Watts; aunts, Barbara Burrows, Edith Kings, Dorothy Gleason, Margaret Wycoff, and Elizabeth Portales; uncle, James L Miller; and cousin, Larry Portales; among several paternal aunts and uncles.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Catie Williams and husband, Shane; granddaughters, SaraEve Elizabeth Chmielewski, Lillian Grace Williams, and Claire Rose Williams; nephew, Damion Watts and wife, Annie; great-niece, Leslie; nephew Jonathan Watts; and great-nephew, Nathan Phillip; uncle, Malcolm Watts and wife, Jesse Lee from Jonesboro, Louisiana; and numerous cousins.
The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Rushing, Dr. Jonathan Davis, the Wound Care Center, Arnold Orthotics & Prosthetic, Dr. James Burke, Dr. Michel Sewell, Dr. Michelle Self, Highland Rehab, 7th floor LSU Ochsner nurses station, the staff of The Bradford, St. Joseph Hospice, and all his many other doctors, nurses, and the several physical therapist that helped him over the past 11 years.
The family would like to extend their very special thanks for all the help given over all the years and especially over the past five months.
In lieu of flowers, Mark asked in his final day for everyone that knew him to please give each other all the hugs and kisses you can while you still can. Chores can wait. Purchasing gifts fades, showing love and spending time with the people that matter the most....never fades away.
