Obituary

Lydia "Jean" Pickett

(Mawmaw Pickett) age 86 passed away Good Friday March 29, 2024 in Shreveport, La at her home surrounded by family. Lydia was born in Delhi,La on April 17, 1937.

Lydia's visitation will be Tuesday April 2, 2024 from 6-8 pm at Western Hills Baptist Church at 4153 Pines Rd. Funeral will be Wednesday April 3, 2024 at 11 pm at Western Hills Baptist Church.

Lydia is preceded in death by her Mother and Father, Husbands Harrison Houston, Doyle Hopkins and Wayne Pickett, sons Cordell, Danny and Eddie Houston, John Lavell Hopkins,Daughter-In-Love Ramona Pickett, Granddaughter Patricia Lydia Gavilanez, Brothers, Alford, Rayford and Charles Miller, Carl Williamson Sisters Virginia Oxley, Frances Pickeron; Donna Miller and dear friend Peggy Robertson.

Lydia is survived by her daughters Alice Hopkins, Doyla Hopkins-Wolfe and husband Dennis, Sharon Ketchum and husband Joey, son David Pickett and special Daughter-In-Love Pamara Houston, Grandchildren Chris and wife Sharon,Jeremy,Russell,Dustin Houston,Ciara Britt and husband Daniel,Kristen Warren, Brett Ketchum and wife Amelia, Katlyn Ketchum and Chrissy Houston and Fiancé Randall. Great Grandchildren,Tyler, Vanessa,Tommy,Emma and Raven.  Lydia is also survived by brother George Miller and wife Marie and sister Mavis Davis and husband Bobby and special cousin Karl Washington and wife Wanda and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Lydia had a daycare in her home for 30 plus years and loved dearly every child she kept and made life long beloved friends.  She had a very special bond with Brian Hope and his precious mother Cindy McGowan Daly whom were by her side the day before  Mawmaw passed.

Mom was an Amazing,Loving,hard working and very much dedicated to her family.  She made sure no matter the circumstances that she kept us all together and taught us the value of family. Mom always made sure she celebrated our birthdays and made us always feel special and loved! She will be dearly missed, however we are so very grateful for her salvation in Christ because this is not goodbye but see you soon.

Lydia was a member of Western Hills Baptist Church and loved her Pastor, (Son-In-love) Joey ketchum. She loved to help decorate for all of the holidays at Church as well as at her home. Especially Christmas! She was truly an Amazing Mother who has left us to cherish her LEGACY!

We would like to thank our sweet precious Sister-In-Love Pam For all that she did  to help care for our mom. We are so Blessed that you loved her so much and that you cared for her daily. We could not have done it with out your help!

We would like to express our sincere Thank you to Willis Knighton Hospice for giving our Mom the absolute best care in her final days.  We especially thank her nurse Christy Graham for her gentle, loving, patient care for our  mom as well as the love she expressed for us.  She was amazingly great to our precious mom and we are most grateful.

Pallbearers will  be  Chris,Jeremy and Russell Houston, Brian Hope, Dennis Wolfe, Brett Ketchum and honorary Pallbearer will be Paul Oxley, Billy Oxley, Troy Wayne Sandifer and Chuck Sanders.
