In Loving Memory of Luke Daniel Leger

November 10, 1958 – July 31, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Luke Leger, who entered eternal rest on July 31, 2026, at the age of 67 at Ochsner LSU Health in Shreveport, Louisiana. Born on November 10, 1958, in Opelousas, Louisiana, Luke was a lifelong resident of Washington, a place he was proud to call home and where he built a life filled with family, friendships, and countless memories.

To know Luke was to know laughter. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for making people smile. Whether he was telling one of his famous stories, cracking a joke, or simply enjoying the company of those around him, Luke had a way of making every gathering brighter. His quick wit, infectious laugh, and larger than life personality left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Luke found his greatest happiness in the simple things. An avid outdoorsman, his favorite pastime was camping, where he felt most at peace surrounded by nature. Whether he was casting a fishing line, enjoying the great outdoors, cooking for family and friends around a campfire, or sharing stories that could keep everyone laughing for hours, Luke embraced every moment. More than anything, he treasured time spent with the people he loved. His family was the center of his world, and the memories they created together will be cherished forever.

A hardworking and dedicated man, Luke proudly served as a police officer with the Washington Police Department early in his career. Throughout the years, he worked as a roughneck in the oil field, a heavy equipment operator, and as a truck driver. He also faithfully served his community as a St. Landry Parish Constable. No matter the job, Luke believed in working hard, helping others, and taking pride in everything he did.

Luke’s generosity knew no bounds. Even in his final moments, he chose to give the ultimate gift by becoming an organ donor, allowing others the opportunity for hope and healing. It was a final act of selflessness that perfectly reflected the compassionate, giving man he had always been. Though his time on earth has ended, his legacy lives on, not only in the hearts of those who loved him, but also in the lives forever changed by his extraordinary gift.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Shylo Leger, Jason Leger, Ellie Leger, and Matt Leger and his wife, Lauren. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Cole, Anny, Riley, Luke, Evie, Bo, and Andie, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to his life.

He is also survived by his step-mother, JoAnn Leger, his loving siblings, Stephanie Latour and her husband, Mitch, Tammy Fontenot and her husband, Ted, Ricky Thibodeaux and his wife, Lindzey, and Toddy Thibodeaux, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends who will forever remember his kindness, his humor, and the love he shared so freely.

Luke was welcomed into Heaven by his beloved parents, Judy Vernon Leger and Dallas Leger; his brother, Dallas “Shorty” Leger, Jr.; his loving uncles, Teddy Vernon and Lionel “Dago” Leger; his cherished aunt, Patsy Sandoz; his adored daughter-in-law, Raven Francis Leger; his cousin, Keith Brown; and many other beloved family members and dear friends who went before him. We find comfort in knowing they were there to welcome him home with open arms.

While our hearts are broken by his loss, we find comfort in knowing that Luke lived life to the fullest. He loved deeply, laughed often, worked hard, and never missed an opportunity to make someone smile. His stories will continue to be told, his laughter will echo in our memories, and his love will remain in our hearts forever.
