Obituary

Lisa Matthews, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. Born on August 18, 1961, in Lake Providence, Louisiana, Lisa was the daughter of James Harold Matthews and Gloria McPherson Matthews.

Lisa dedicated her life to education, earning her degree from Northeast Louisiana State University in Monroe. With a passion for shaping young minds, she devoted her career to teaching both special education and physical education at Shreve Island Elementary until her well-earned retirement from Caddo Schools. Her students were fortunate to be guided by her patience, encouragement, and unwavering support.

Lisa's life was marked by an incredible sense of humor, a heart for helping others, and a deep love for sports. She was not only cheering from the sidelines but playing the games herself, always bringing her competitive spirit and enthusiasm to the court, field, or wherever the game took her. Whether supporting her students, sharing laughter with loved ones, or staying active in the sports she loved, she brought joy and energy to every part of her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James Harold Matthews and Gloria McPherson Matthews, her brother Steven Clay Matthews, and her niece Kate Matthews Wooten.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved son, Cody Alexander Matthews (Crystal); her treasured grandchildren, Gabriel Levi Matthews, Garrin Zander Matthews, and Gloria Rose Matthews; her brother, Michael Craig Matthews; nephews, John Matthews and Jack Matthews; and dear friends Penny Potter, Wilma Watkins, Marla Gilcrease, and Shari Warren French, along with many more cherished friends and family members.

In honor of Lisa's generous spirit, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the Dementia Society or the Special Olympics. The family and friends would like to thank the staff of Heritage Manor and LifePath Hospice.

Lisa's legacy of kindness, laughter, and dedication to others will live on in the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

A memorial service will be held at Broadmoor United Methodist Church in Shreveport on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 11 AM.  A visitation will be held at 10 AM.
