Leta Gayle Pfeil, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on the morning of January 21, 2026. She was 74 years old.

Leta was born on November 26, 1952, in McAllen, Texas, to her loving parents, Marvin A. Collins and Elouise Collins. She was raised alongside her siblings, Karen and Layne, in a home filled with love, laughter, and strong family bonds. From an early age, Leta’s light was unmistakable—she was beautiful inside and out, and even as a child, she was the life of the party.

Between the ages of four and fourteen, Leta lived in South America, an experience that shaped her into a woman with a broad worldview, deep compassion, and an appreciation for people from all walks of life. That global perspective stayed with her throughout her life and informed the empathy she showed to everyone she met.

Leta married Carl Pfeil and together they raised two children, Todd and Londa, who were the pride and joy of her life. Later in life, Leta returned to college and completed her degree in Victoria, Texas—an achievement that reflected her determination, resilience, and belief in lifelong growth.

She dedicated her career to serving others through her work with Child Protective Services, where she touched the lives of hundreds of children in need. Her work was more than a job; it was a calling, and she carried it out with kindness, strength, and unwavering compassion.

Leta was a favorite in her family—someone everyone gravitated toward for her warmth, humor, and unmistakable spark. She had a quick wit and a joyful sense of humor that never left her, even in her final days. She found ways to make others laugh, to lighten heavy moments, and to remind those around her of what truly mattered.

Of all her roles, Leta found her deepest joy in being a mother and grandmother. She was blessed with five grandchildren—Matthew, Chaz, Chance, Jenna, and Olivia—each of whom brought her immense happiness. Her love for them was boundless, and her days were brightest when spent surrounded by family. Leta was a truly selfless person, always giving everything she had to those she loved. Her generosity, humor, and fierce devotion to family will be remembered always.

She is now reunited in heaven with her parents and her loving sister, who were surely waiting with open arms to welcome her home.
