Lester Goins of Shreveport, Louisiana passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020 at the age of 87 at Heritage Manor West Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Born May 24, 1932 to the late Sydney Albert Goins and Versa Ann Ryder Goins, Lester was a strong-willed man.
Lester enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17 and served his country as a young man on the U.S.S. Benham (DD796) for 3 years. He operated a telescope on the side of the ship to see if anyone was coming.
Lester was an intelligent man, working as a Technical Support Representative, Software Engineer, and Computer Instructor at IBM for most of his life. He retired from IBM in 1985.
He loved to be in the yard, planting fruit trees. One of his favorite hobbies was talking to people over HAM Radio.
He met his longtime companion and neighbor Isabel Eddington at a HAM Radio meeting in 1985.
He was passionate about genealogy, constantly researching and discovering more about where he came from and his history.
He was a unique man, very much his own person. He could make you laugh and he told you how it is. He was an honest man.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents Sidney Goins and Versa Ryder Goins, his brothers Donald and Clyde Goins, and his children Kit Goins and Kim Goins Meyer. His memory will continue to live on in the heart of his longtime companion Isabel Eddington, daughters Kathy Galloway and Kelly Gervais and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral service for Lester will be held graveside on Sunday, May 24 at 1:00 p.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery in Mora, Louisiana under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Shreveport.
