June 22, 1939 – July 13, 2023
Lathan Dewey Brown, born June 22, 1939 passed away July 13, 2023 after battling a lengthy illness due to dementia and Parkinson's. He is preceded by the death of his parents, Herman and Ila Brown, his brother Prentis and sister Teretha. Lathan is survived by his best friend and loving wife Johnnie Bell of 63 years, their son Scott Brown his wife, JoAnn and grandchildren Olivia and Jonah of Flower Mound, TX. Also, his brother and sister in law, Fred and Shirley Brown of Shreveport, LA, sister and brother in law, Brenda and Mike Lyddy of Many, LA, brother and sister in law, Thomas and Marjorie Rivers of Shreveport, LA and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Aulds Funeral Home, July 28th 5pm-7pm followed by memorial service at Spring Ridge Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill, July 29th at 10am. Honorary pallbearers are; Jay Crooms of Shreveport, Michael Wenk, of Point Verde, FL, Scott Mayfield of Southlake, TX and Ron Cook of Liberty City, TX
Lathan was raised in Pleasant Hill, LA, served in the US Army afterwards, he and Johnnie moved to Shreveport, LA where he worked for Sears as a service technician and retired after 38 years. Lathan and Johnnie moved to Ringgold, LA after retirement but had recently returned to Shreveport due to failing health.
Lathan was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. He would spend countless hours walking the woods or up in a deer stand or standing on the banks of a pond. It was some of his happiest times enjoying the outdoors. He had the distinct honor of having killed the largest white tail deer in Louisiana in 1977 and was registered in the Boone and Crockett record books.
A special thanks goes out to Dr. Wen Lui and his staff for their tireless efforts to keep Lathan going, particularly over the last 6 months and the prayers and support of our family and friends.
