It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of District Judge Lane Pittard, a pillar of justice in the 26th Judicial District. Judge Pittard, a beloved native of Minden, departed from us on the evening of December 12, leaving behind a legacy marked by his unwavering commitment to justice and advocacy for victims.
He was a graduate of Northwestern University in Natchitoches, LA where he was proud a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He graduated from The University of Arkansas Law School in 1992 and returned to the Shreveport/Bossier City area to practice law. Judge Pittard embarked on a remarkable legal journey that spanned over three decades. His dedication to the pursuit of justice led him to a distinguished tenure as the first assistant in the Bossier-Webster District Attorney's office, following two decades of private practice in the Shreveport-Bossier area.
In 2017, Judge Pittard took the oath as a 26th Judicial District Judge in Division C. United States House Speaker Mike Johnson paid tribute, describing him as a humble leader and dedicated jurist who served the community honorably.
Judge Pittard's impact extended beyond the courtroom, earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues and community members alike. Bossier Clerk of Court Jill Sessions lamented the profound loss, acknowledging Judge Pittard's significant contributions to Webster Parish.
Lane Pittard was proceeded in death by his parents', Robert and Esther Pittard; his sister, Gen Briscoe.
Lane Pittard was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Adelise, son Rob & wife Natalie, son Don & wife Mady and grand-son Robert. He is also survived by his sister Carol & husband Charles. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Lane loved music. He was an avid player and listener. He was a self-taught musician in which he taught himself many instruments including the harmonica, guitar, accordion, mandolin, keyboard and vocals. He played in the Praise Band at church and was a founding member of the Bossier City Torpedoes. His additional hobbies included fishing, traveling and gastronomy. Lane enjoyed cooking and was a founding member of Souper Saturday at FUMC. Lane was a storyteller and loved sharing stories with anyone who would listen. He often brought many people together through food, laughter and fellowship.
The family would like to thank their many friends and family throughout the years for the love, laughter and support of the Pittard family. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the following charities: First United Methodist Church of Bossier City, St. Jude Children's Hospital, Hope House, or any charity of your choice. Lane was a propionate and often participated in Random Acts of Kindness. In his spirit, please continue this tradition of service and giving.
