Obituary

Keyna Denise Mooney, 64, passed away peacefully in the home of her daughter on April 2, 2024, after battling chronic illness. She was born on May 18, 1959, in Columbus, Mississippi, to Patrick Jerome and Shelby Jean Mooney. She grew up as a military brat in a very loving and close family often referring to themselves as The Mooney Bunch. Those close to them knew them in this way: SteveCarrieKeynaPattiBillBethJohnJim. She spent her early years traveling across the country moving every two years with her siblings, parents, plants, and pets stacked high on homemade car cots in station wagons and Volkswagens from one Air Force Base to another attending schools in Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, Guam, South Dakota, Ohio, Louisiana, and Florida. She spent her entire adult years residing in Bossier City, Louisiana, where she raised her six children and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had an entrepreneurial spirit early on starting her own daycare called Keyna's Kiddieland then spent many years in retail at J. C. Penney's and Kathryn's. She lived for her children and her children lived for her.  Absolute happiness. Absolute fun. Absolute togetherness. Closeness. Family. She taught everyone how to "family": be hospitable, lovable, laugh. Maybe, just don't eat her spaghetti. She added cinnamon to it.

She always only ever out loved us all. It was not possible to ever say to her that you loved her more. She topped your love with the final words every time. Maybe that is why her best friend of a lifetime Saline left her a note as she lay sleeping signing off, "I love you too many times!" One way to out love her was to tell her when she slept. She could always make us laugh mostly using her smile, charm and wittiness. She was so very clever; she thought and loved her way through some of life's most difficult situations. She had the happiest of homes raising her children and being a beloved Meema to her grandchildren. Chaos ensued but happiness was gained. She walked through deep sorrow too, losing a daughter and grandchildren much too soon. These heartbreaks just made her hug love and dream deeper. Her daughter has said when she tried to wake her for anything in her final days that Keyna would awaken reluctantly because she got interrupted while playing with Haleigh's baby!

She was preceded in death by her mother, Shelby Jean Mooney, the love of her life and father of her children, her husband Steve Fletcher, Sr., daughter, Michelle Roe, grandson, Colton Bordelon, granddaughter, Caitlin Fletcher.

She is survived by her 5 children, Stevie Fletcher (Gretchie), Shean Fletcher (Sharon), Brian Fletcher, Blane Fletcher, Nikole Deleon (Mitchell), her son-in-law Jonathan Roe, her father Patrick Jerome Mooney and her siblings, Steve Mooney (Maureen), Carrie Haley, Patti Farrier (Greg), Bill Mooney (Debbie), Beth Troutman (Keith), John Mooney (Jill), Jim Mooney (Heidi) and literally countless nieces and nephews and cousins.

Grandchildren: Chance Fletcher, Caden Fletcher, Kendal Fletcher, Tyler Roe, Brittany Roe, Alaney Roe, Austin Roe, Alexis Fletcher, Lauren Mann, Jared Noble, Willow, Wake, and Nova Noble, Kynadie Fletcher, Haleigh Fletcher, Layliana Mann, Jayden Mann, Sary Ducas, Samantha Ducas, Vanessa Chandler, Ezra Danford, Briar Danford, Amara Danford, Ember Danford, Holland Murphy.

Great-grandchildren: Joseph Roe, Fletcher Mangham, Ella-James Anne Frech

Friends and family of Keyna Denise Mooney are invited to her service which will be at 10:30 am Saturday April 6, 2024, and led by Rev. Kelby R. Tingle at St. Jude Catholic Church 4700 Palmetto Road, Benton La. 71006

One way to honor Keyna's memory is donating to Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Amedisys Hospice along with several of the caring nurses and staff at Willis Knighton Bossier. They brought smiles to Keyna's face and smiles with deep gratitude to many family members' faces as well with their concern for our loved one.  Many times, they hopped in the room unannounced and unassigned to her just to check in on her and let Keyna give them a hard time using a witty comment and a knowing smile. Courtney with Amedisys once again carried our family through this difficult time caring for her Aunt Keyna with love and care. She loved us all by giving us direct and hard facts but spoken with professional concern threaded with love. To our beloved daughter, sister, mother, meemaw, great meema, and friend we whisper to you once more that sometimes love hurts. And love is hurting right now for us all. You are forever missed. You are never forgotten. You are forever loved.
