Obituary

Kathleen (Kathy) Irvin was a loving Wife, Mother, MeMaw, MawMaw, Sister, Aunt, Daughter and Friend.  Kathy left this world on August 6, 2022 at the age of 77, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her by living their lives to the fullest.  No matter how sick she was, she was a fighter and always remained determined.  She stayed strong and positive and did so with a sense of dignity and pride. Through her, we know what perseverance and resilience truly looks like and are encouraged to emulate these traits.  Her joy for life and indomitable spirit kept her pushing through until the end.  She is no longer here, but that doesn't mean she lost her fight.  She is at rest, and now, has a peace that is only realized when life ends in this world.

Kathy was born May 10, 1946, in White Plaines, NY.  She was the oldest of five girls. She spent the majority of her life in Shreveport, La and married the love of her life, Thomas Wayne Irvin on September 8th, 1972.  Together, they enjoyed every moment they spent with one another.  They danced the nights away, raced cars, fished till dawn and gave all they had to their children, grandchildren and family.  Most recently they enjoyed sharing time sitting on the front porch and watching the birds and especially the hummingbirds.  She recalled hearing the "humming" of the birds and it sounded "almost like a song."  They had a beautiful friendship in addition to their marriage and always shared laughter with one another.  They shared inside jokes between them and always "giving one another a hard time" but their laughter and love made their life together magical.  She always encouraged her children and those she loved to do what makes them happy.  Throughout her life she ensured those around her knew they were loved and thought of daily.

Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Vern Rains and sister Teresa Nelson.  She is survived by her mother, Mickey Rains, loving husband Wayne Irvin, four children: Deanna Irvin, Amy Jo Irvin, Russell L. Owens,Sr. and Angela Graham.  Her grandchildren: Caymen Stockbauer, Riley and Trinity Deprez, Russell Jr and Miranda Owens, Ashley Culpepper and Michael Graham. Her sisters: Debbie Tyson, Rita Severs, Ginger Friday and Teresa Nelson who preceded in death.

The family invites you to join them for a "Celebration of Life Ceremony" at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, 08/13/2022 at 3pm located 943 Pine Hill Rd, Shreveport, La.

"Death Is Nothing At All"

Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just round the corner. All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again.
