Katherine Colleen "Kathy" Swagger-Sliger
February 19, 1974 – September 10, 2024
Katherine Colleen "Kathy" Swagger-Sliger, 50, passed away on September 10, 2024, in Bossier City, Louisiana. She was born on February 19, 1974, in Midwest City, Oklahoma, to her loving parents, Billie Gayle Little and David Eugene Swagger.
Kathy impacted countless lives. She was the voice of reason, the friend who always showed up, and the person who would stand beside you to fight your battles. She never hesitated to speak the truth, no matter how hard it was to hear, and she wasn't afraid to call you out when you needed it. But she did so with a heart full of love, always pushing those around her to be the best versions of themselves. Some people didn't always understand her at first, but later realized she was preparing them for the road ahead.
Most of all, Kathy loved. She had a deep empathy for others and cared genuinely about their well-being, their recovery, and the obstacles in their lives. Her kindness and unwavering support touched the hearts of family, friends, co-workers, clients, and her entire community.
She was a proud graduate of Stillwater High School in Stillwater, Oklahoma, Class of 1992. She went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in General Studies on November 21, 2003, and later achieved a Master's Degree in 2008 both from Louisiana Tech University.
Kathy dedicated her life to helping others. She worked as an addiction counselor at several locations in Shreveport and Bossier City, Louisiana, guiding countless individuals on their journey to recovery. Her leadership and passion led her to become Director at New Day, where she continued her mission of supporting and uplifting others.
Kathy was a woman of faith and attended Open Door Bible Church in Bossier City, Louisiana. Her faith was an essential part of her life and guided her in the way she cared for and uplifted others.
Kathy had many hobbies and interests, including reading a good fantasy book, crocheting, macrame, cross-stitching, diamond art, pour painting, and wood burning. She found joy in creating and sharing her artistic talents with those around her.
Beyond her professional and creative passions, Kathy had a huge heart for family. She fostered her great-niece, Chloe, for the last five years, providing her with love, guidance, and a nurturing home.
One of Kathy's favorite counseling strategies was to challenge the idea of "trying." When someone would say they would "try," she would toss a pencil on the ground and tell them to "try" and pick it up—proving that you either pick it up, or you don't. This simple yet powerful lesson left a lasting impression on those she mentored.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Billie Gayle Little; her father, David Eugene Swagger; her brother, Phillip Michael Schooley; and all of her grandparents.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jeffry Wayne Sliger; her sisters, Cindy Molloy (Dwayne Molloy) and Jody Priddy (Kevin Priddy); and her brothers, Jason Swisher, Wesley Welch, and Ricky Welch. Kathy was also a cherished aunt to her five nieces and eight nephews and a beloved great-aunt to 27 great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on February 22, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Aulds Funeral Home, located at 7849 East Kings Highway, Shreveport, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a mental health or addiction charity in her honor.
Kathy's impact on the world will never fade. She was a force to be reckoned with—strong, loyal, and full of love. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
