On the afternoon of December 12, 2015, Karl passed away at University Hospital, Shreveport, Louisiana, after a brief illness. He was 77 years old.
Born on November 30, 1938 in Toledo, Ohio, Karl earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toledo.
Employed by General Electric Company, Karl moved to Shreveport in November of 1970, and retired from GE in 1994 after 32 years of service. A lifelong supporter of the University of Toledo "Rockets", Karl was also an avid fan of Ohio State University and was never without a buckeye in his pocket. Supporting local sports teams in Shreveport/Bossier, Karl often attended Shreveport Sports/Captains games as well as being a season ticket-holder for the Bossier Shreveport Mudbugs. Despite the Mudbugs dissolution, Karl remained in close contact with many former players.
Karl was preceded in death by his father and mother, Mr. Eugene H and Mrs. Elise (Leisel) Mueller, and his brother Eugene F. Mueller, Heathrow, Florida. As his parents came from Germany, Karl maintained a keen interest in communicating with relatives overseas as well as fostering his German heritage throughout the United States. He was a social member of the Toldeo Schwaben Verein, a member at large of the American Turner Society, and, as a member of Shreveport Elks Lodge #122, was responsible for organizing the Lodge Oktoberfest. Karl took his Lodge Oath seriously and participated regularly in community service events and outreach for Veterans and children, and singlehandedly created a fund to support the purchase, care, and distribution of flags throughout the Elks Lodge. Karl will be remembered by friends, family, and Elk members as a patriotic American, a meticulous engineer, and a man who was never afraid to help another.
While Karl was not a proponent of "fanfare", Elks Lodge #122 would like to honor him and his life at a Memorial Service on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at 3:00 p.m., 310 East Preston, Shreveport, LA.
