Obituary

On the evening of July 26th, 2022, Joseph "Joey" Brocato Pedro of Shreveport, Louisiana took his final breath and passed beyond the mortal world at the age of 55 after a years-long struggle with a respiratory illness.

Joey was born in 1966 to Gean and Joseph Pedro of Bruce Street in Broadmoor. He was a Sagittarius. He was a graduate of Haughton High School, Class of 1985. Joey pursued an education in Professional Photography at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, beginning a life-long passion for documenting images of a vanishing past and for capturing a perfect moment on film.

Joey was a long-time employee for Books-A-Million, where he traveled frequently throughout the Southeast US as a Construction Projects Coordinator. He made many friends there and in his other occupations as a Professional Land Manager, the bartender at Spataro's in the Remington Hotel, doorman at Circle In The Square and as Sales & Service Associate for Wayne and Trish at CRS.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, at get-togethers, for a homemade meal or an all-night game of Dungeons & Dragons. He longed to continue and photograph his travels throughout the Americas and Europe.

Joey is preceded in death by his much-loved grandparents Paul & Cordie Johnson of Red Chute, Philip & Grace Pedro of Shreveport, his aunts, Genie Johnson, Mildred Smith, Linda Pedro, Tina Sansone, uncle Tony Sansone, cousin Veto Cefalu and close family friend Rosina Cascio.

He is survived by his mother Gean, father Joe, sisters Angela Drinkwine and Rebecca Tate, brothers Casey Bailiff, Ben Piraro and Philip Pedro, uncles Sammy Pedro, Paul F Johnson and Minor Johnson, cousins Preston, Minette, Drew, Stephanie and Patsy, his nephews and nieces, other cousins, family and personal friends. Joey expressed his special affection for his friends Danny, Tommy, Carrie and Mercy, and his cousin Ashley.

A small, brief memorial service will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 1210 Anniston Avenue in Broadmoor, Shreveport at 10am on September 3rd, conducted by Father Rothell  Price. All who knew Joey are welcome. Those unable to attend can view remotely:

Among Joey's last wishes were that a part of his estate be directed to the American Red Cross. The last entry to his will & testament reads as follows:  "If anyone wants to take a handful of ashes, spread them where you think I would have liked to see or visit."
