Devries
November 13, 1961 – January 16, 2022
John William deVries, age 60, son of Arthur and Audrey Sue deVries, was born in Hinsdale, Illinois on November 13, 1961. He passed away on January 16, 2022 at his residence in Shreveport, Louisiana.
At a young age, John developed a fascination and love for being a police officer which lasted his whole life. He began his career serving as a corrections officer at the Caddo Sheriff's Office and joined the Shreveport Police Department in 1984. There he worked his way through the ranks to Lieutenant and retired in 2012. Although he served in many units, his favorites were Patrol and D.W.I. He was proud to be awarded the Louisiana Law Enforcement Officer of the year in 1999 and served many years as the officer representative on the Civil Service Board.
John enjoyed playing a lot of sports when he was younger including softball, basketball, and golf. After retirement, John enjoyed fishing with his Dad, visiting with friends, playing with his grandson and watching his beloved LSU Tigers.
John was a loving husband, father grandfather, son, brother and friend that will be dearly missed. He is survived by his mother, Audrey Sue deVries, wife Valerie deVries, daughter Jordan Diaz, sister Noreen Kennedy (Mike Kennedy), grandson Luca Diaz, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Arthur deVries.
A memorial service will be held at Aulds Funeral Home on Friday, January 21, 2022 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be to the NWLA Humane Society, to honor John's love for dogs.
The family would like to thank the support of the Shreveport Police Department and his many lifelong friends during this difficult time.
